Transportation Solution

The details of the transportation compromise have been released.

And it looks like the gas tax made the cut.

Here’s the highlights.  The smidgeon of $250 million dollars of General Fund money to finance $2.5 billion of statewide bonds has been lowered to $172 million, which makes it a fragment of a smidgeon of the $72 Billion state budget.  Do that math!  I tried to make another pie chart, but my computer said “I can’t chart ZERO”

Kaine whined again, as if he doesn’t like it as much as he likes his own plan which he never revealed and never submitted.

Hampton Roads regionally has a $200 million dollar annual revenue highlighted by a 2% gas tax (who saw that coming?) and 10-cents per $100 of commercial real estate tax.

  1. So much for the stridently flat-earth, anti-tax House.

Not that the papers will report it that way. Nope — can’t fool with the meta-narrative.

  2. What about all-appointed, unaccountable regional authorities?

Did that abonination survive the cut?

If so, I will be visiting Governor Kaine to remind him that he ran for office promising to veto any bill that created regional transportation authorities AND that he’d veto any new taxes unless the TTF was protected by a Constitutional Amendment.

Is the final bill HB 3202 - or some other bill?

Gov. Kaine can do whatever HE WANTS to the final bill - whatever bill that is.

At the end of the day it is good to be able to have time with the Governor so he may consider fixing BAD BILLS before signing them.

Dealing with one person is far easier than dealing with the soup opera cast we call the General Assembly.

  3. Who ate the $639 million dollar surplus?

  4. I thought the GOP plan had in it a one-time $500 million allocation from this surplus to TTF.

  5. I don’t think it has the 21 votes in the Senate. Bolling can’t break the tie on this one.

  6. The $500 million from the GF is still there. I have the details of the plan on my blog.

  7. Stop whining guys. Kaine says the plan has “huge problems” - that means it’s good.

Get on board and help Repubs keep the majority.

  8. Who cares about the freakin Republicans? They are done. I’ll vote for Dick the Dogcatcher before I vote for another imitation Democrat.

  9. Awesome, counting me my wife that’s 3 votes I know of . . .

And remember, it isn’t who you elect, it is who you throw out of office that counts.

  10. At least with the Democrats, you know you are going to get Dick.

What the Republicans offer is the political version of a porno re-run from the Playboy channel. You get the same plot, lousy acting, and everything is hidden.

  11. Darrell, you sound a little too familiar with that.

  12. Well, I did live on the West Coast for 20+ years. ;}

As a member of the California conservatives, I have witnessed the best the Dems can offer. It gives you a good perspective when Virginia politicians attempt cheap imitations. Sorry, they just don’t measure up.

Why vote for fluff, when you can vote for Dick?

  13. Darrell, I don’t understand? You’ve been critical of Virginia Republicans in most of your comments, but in this one, you say that you have “witnessed the best the Dems can offer” in California and that Virginia politicians are “cheap imitations”.

Do you mean the Dems here are cheap imitations? Or, did you mean to say that you saw the best Republicans can offer in California and the one’s here are cheap imitations?

Either way, I think we get your point. Politics, in your view, is better in California. That explains a lot.

  14. Actually you missed the point. The Republicans are sacrificing their own party creed to become Democrats with a different name. They attempt to do so covertly. So if Virginia is to become a liberal state, why pick a bunch of amateurs when you can have the pros? At least the Dems are up front about it.

  15. Darrell is right! Vote us Dems into power and at least you know what you will be getting - pretty much the same thing you now get from Rebublicans in power - only we DEMS will proudly boost that raising your taxes and spreading Socialism is what we stand for!

I’m pretty sure that is Darrell’s point.

I mean what Dems do you know that don’t support cradle to grave entitlements such as Universal Healthcare?

Sure, I understand that there is a great need to raise your taxes - especially on the wealthy, but I admit it!

So vote for me instead - and throw those dishonest Republicans out on the street where they belong.

We Dems understand what so many of the masses have failed to appreciate, ruling is our birth right. We are enlightened and we understand how best to spend your money.

Voting for us Dems is a vote for the greater good.

Nasty, selfish, and mean spirited Republicans believe that everyone is on their own and if you can’t compete in life then your government doesn’t have any requirement to step in and help you. Some of the GOP hard core neocons will even admit this is how they feel, can you believe that?!

So Darrell, some of my local MoveOn.org friends are hosting a screening of Al Gore’s terrific documentary - An Intentional Lack of Truth this Sunday morning, can we count on you to join us?

We felt that was the best time to schedule this because we understand that no rational adult would actually be attending a church where they worship mythical, supernatural beings that no one can prove exist.

Contact my website for the address in Ghent where you can join us.
