European iPhones expected to use EDGE not G3

Gartner analysts Carolina Milanesi has predicted the European version of the iPhone will probably launch on EDGE, and not on the faster G3-network.
It was thought that Apple would jump directly to a 3G-capable iPhone for its first version in Europe, but one of the reasons behind Milanesi prediction is that mobile users here in the UK and across Europe have found their batteries run down much quicker if on G3.
This is something Apple will need to address as the iPhone already has a relatively poor battery life compared to similar devises on the market.
